Oven Baked Apple Chips

Apple chips make a great fall snack and a good way to use up that bag of apples from the local orchard. These are easy to make but do take some time in the oven, so plan ahead. You might as well make up a big batch while you’re at it. The apples will shrink down quite a bit as they bake.

Instructions
  1. Fill a large bowl with water and a splash or two of lemon juice. Preheat the oven to 225°F.
  2. Peel (if you like) and thinly slice the apples. If you have a mandoline, now is an excellent time to use it. After you slice each apple, cut out the tough core bit and poke out any seeds with a paring knife. Or you could simply use an apple corer before slicing if you have one. Submerge the slices in the lemon water to prevent browning as you keep working.
  3. When all of your apple slices are ready, line baking sheets (as many as you need) with parchment paper. Spread the slices out in a single layer and pat dry with a paper towel. Sprinkle with the spices and bake for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or until crispy and no longer chewy.
