The Coop is excited to welcome Steve Peters as our General Manager.
Steve was the Executive Director at the Downtown Partnership for the past four years, and is no stranger to the Coop. He has served on the Coop’s Board of Directors for the last three years, most recently as president.
“The Board of Directors could not be more elated to have Steve Peters in the role of General Manager,” said Jess Venable-Novak, Board vice president. “Steve is a leader in downtown Rutland, and his commitment to the community is unparalleled. The Board believes that Steve’s passion for the local food movement, knowledge of the Coop, and vision for RAFC make him an amazing fit for the position.”
Steve moved to Vermont ten years ago to volunteer with AmeriCorps. He quickly became involved in the Rutland community and chose to stay. Since, he has helped run educational programs and increased local food awareness at the Rutland Area Farm and Food Link. He spent several years volunteering with the Rutland Young Professionals, where he worked to connect people interested in living and working in Rutland. From 2015-2017, Steve was also employed at the Coop as its first Marketing Manager. In 2020, he was named a Vermont Rising Star by the Vermont Business Magazine in recognition of his community commitment.
“I’m excited to help the Coop grown in this new capacity,” said Steve. “When I think of what makes Rutland and our downtown special, the Coop is at the top of my list. It’s a vital component of our local food economy, and I can’t wait to start collaborating with the staff, board, and community on making our Coop the best it can be.”
Steve says some of his priorities include refreshing the Coop’s look and feel, finding new ways to improve the shopping experience, increasing sales, and ensuring that the staff is supported and empowered for success.
The staff looks forward to Steve’s leadership and partnership, and is ready to move forward in cooperation. The current Interim GM said, “Steve is the person we want and need in this role. We know he cares about the Coop, staff, and community, and will work with us to achieve success.”
In his free time, Steve is busy growing vegetables in his garden, cooking in his kitchen, and writing about food for his blog and a local newspaper.
Steve will officially begin his role here on April 5th, 2021.
