Trim your jar with ribbon and include a card with the following recipe:
Curried Lentil Soup
3 T butter
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium red onion, diced
8 cups water or broth, or a combination
Jar of soup mix, minus the rice (cook separately)
Heat butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add garlic and onion; saute 6 minutes. Add the contents of the spice bag, the bay leaves and chile pepper from the jar of soup mix and cook about 3 minutes. Add the rest of the soup mix and 8 cups water or light broth; simmer until the lentils are soft, about 1 hour. Season with salt.
About half an hour before planning to serve the soup, prepare the rice. Bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil. Add to cold water and bring to a boil; add salt is you wish. Lower to a simmer for 20 – 25 minutes, or until water is absorbed and rice is tender. Serve soup over rice.
